Meet Iris 4.0!

Intelligent assistants are rapidly becoming widespread today and it is predicted that they will become more widespread in the future.

We worked on the form and interaction design as close to the ideal for the future as possible for an AI assistant, which is predicted to take place extensively in our lives.  

Iris 4.0 offers a safer and more intimate experience at home compared to its other models, thanks to its renewed fabric-covered surface.

As the advantages of technology shape our lives, our needs are also starting to change. We live fast and consume fast. So, being multifunctional is very important to us and we want to meet our needs in a short time. Therefore, we need smart assistants to meet our daily needs as quickly and practically as possible.

However, existing artificial intelligence assistants designed for convenience are incapable of performing features that require dominance such as security, sound and light control etc. Due to their unstable or wrong picked location, they become no different from any item on the coffee table.

Since an AI Assistant is meant to be placed at the center of space to function properly, everyday objects tend to become an obstacle for them. Objects can reduce the efficiency of the device. Iris is designed with this concept in mind; being in the center but not being blocked by anything. With its location on the ceiling, not many objects can block the connection and become an obstacle for this device.

High Quality Audio Experience

After the device is powered on, it measures using sample sound waves to describe its surroundings. In this way, it can calculate how the sound wave from the 6×6+1 sound system is distributed in the environment it is in and offers an optimized solution for the best sound experience possible.

Set the Ambiance According to Your Mood

Whether you are watching TV, listening to music or want to capture the ambiance you need inside your home, Iris allows you to choose the lighting of your environment according to your mood. When this function is activated, the product acts as a lighting unit. Thanks to its central and relatively elevated position inside your home, it provides sufficient lighting.

SafeLock, a latest disclosure of Formeta Design, aims to provide a safer kitchen ambiance for families with children. Because of its shape and height. Oven doors & door bars can cause unexpected dangerous consequences. it’s not only just turning on the oven, but also an incentive for toddlers to reach for higher items (like the hob). Safety Lock’s rotating handle and lock system provides a safer kitchen ambiance, while at the same time, its user-oriented easy interface reinterprets the cooking experience.

Smart Glass Technology to Get Less Attention

SafeLock has smart (electrochromic) glass technology to draw less attention when desired. So you can reduce the attractiveness of your oven even if it’s working. Don’t worry about not being able to control your food, SafeLock can be tracked and controlled completely with your mobile device.

User Friendly Front Panel

Unlike the existing difficult and complex front panels and knobs, SafeLock has a simple and unique interface. All you need to do is to select the features you want to run and start cooking by selecting them from your phone or the front panel.

Active RF & IR Locator Design

Locator which connects edge devices to the reader to connect the system altogether, is a crucial component of IoT solutions. The whole industrial design process was designed and made by Formeta Design for one of our long-running business partners Borda Technology. Within the integration of crucial advances in IoT technologies we have made a compact design for the smart component of IoT solutions. The optional antenna of the product was hidden in an extra shell which was varying according to ceiling type. By working as a bridge, the locator assures the connection between the main systems and smart IoT edge devices. Formeta Design involved the process of industrial design, design management, concept generation (design sketching, 3D modelling), rapid prototyping (mock-up) and molding design processes.

an Edge Device for Asset Management System

Assettag, an edge device of Asset Management System, was produced and licensed by Borda Technology. As Formeta Design, we involved the design process of both hardware and software of the product.  After recent developments in Industry 4.0, IoT devices converted into more reasonable systems which led to the emergence of a new design field called ‘Design for IoT. While making a design Asset Tag, the most essential design criteria we met is customizing. So we used membran for the top part of the product due to changing customer requests over time. The company can just change the membrane of the product to customize it for their clients. To provide these flexible usage fields, the exterior form of the product was being chosen as simple form which allows the company to detect the removal of the product and assemble on every type of the product easily.

Edge Devices of RFID Tracking System for Healthcare

Infant Tag Safety Systems is a RFID healthcare system which is licensed by Borda Technology. It has several components such as infant-tag, mother-tag, badge-tag, locator, reader, etc. to keep newborns safe in delivery rooms and hospitals. 

Formeta Design made a long-run collaboration with Borda Technology to design both hardwares and software for the company. As a result of this collaboration, Infant Tag and Mother Tag are RFID tags which enable correct infant-mother match and Infant Tag as itself decreases kidnapping risk to zero with Real Time Location System which allows monitoring the location of baby from the birth to the day being discharged. Besides these features, there is a button on both infant-tag and mother-tag for nurse paging in case of emergency.

Through disruptive technologies which emerged in the Industry 4.0 era, IoT devices simplify and enable companies to achieve sophisticated problems. However it looks easier, there is not so much rule or regulation for designing these devices. Thus, just one tag case was defined and designed by us to apply for both mother and infant. The differences between them were just colors and printed images on it to make it more domestic. 

On the ‘Infant Tag’ project we managed the whole design process and we were on duty for industrial design, design management, concept generation (design sketching, 3D Modelling), rapid prototyping (mock-up) and molding design processes. Infant Tag Safety Systems are already in use at hospitals in several countries. What a pleasure for us to attend a whole design process of this device’s production and get a chance to help keep new-born babies safe in their very first hours.

EnerjiSA with more than 9 million customers in 14 provinces, manages two main business lines of electricity distribution and sales with operational excellence in Turkey. For the design of their latest product’ Smart Box’, they chose Formeta Design’s expertise. We made a design of Smart Box which enables individuals to track and make an analysis of their energy consumption, to detect instantaneous increases with its compatible mobile application. Also, the customer can set the billing target and make a comparison between the consumption of individual or the other users. Thus, the end user prevents wasting energy and saving nature with the sustainable tips of the Smart Box.

We implied the futuristic, modern and stylish design line for the smart box and created the homogeneous moire by located lights in the middle of the product. Thus, we attained a more innovative appearance for the Smart Box which is suitable for every house.

Let us introduce the latest vision project of Formeta Design.

As we know, the aviation industry is one of the most damaged sectors by the pandemic. In addition to the direct economic effects of the restrictions, there are also indirect sociological effects on our society such as personal space needs and more hygienic and easy-to-clean equipment.

What if we control all components of our plane seat via smart device during flights?

What if we don’t need to touch any other surface than our smart device on the seat, except sitting?

S-Pro, the first design of our no-touch product ranges, emerged as a natural consequence of these questions.

S-Pro Plane Seat

From the beginning of the flight until the end, the no-touch seat was designed with a holistic approach to provide full control over the smart device. All components can be controlled from a single channel without touching such as turning on the lights, opening the trays or reclining seats. S-Pro also improves flight attendants’ operations and enhances passengers’ experiences and during their flights. Regarding different personas and their varying needs, concepts like “hygiene, privacy and customizability” came to the fore in the design process of S-Pro.

Modern Lines

Seat fabrics selected as a nano fabric regarding hygiene requirements and makes cleaning more easy. For referring to the near future and generative design, fabrics were designed with the lines which are creating organic and fluid forms and ruining the symmetry.

Light and Soft Appearance

To create a more comfortable and light appearance in the interior atmosphere, all components are designed with the white composite materials regarding long and exhausting flights. Also, to fulfill the aviation requirements, components are examined for reaching the optimum weight.

Headrest Features

Smart Adjustable Head

An illuminated and adjustable headrest of S-Pro was designed with the latest technologies to create a comfortable ambience for passengers. With its dynamic structure it allows customers to arrange the position of the headrest as they want. Also, it is moving according to the passengers’ positions. Thanks to its mobility, lighting and sound system passengers enjoy their flights. Two new innovative features were added as Direct Sound Technology and Noise Cancellation Technology

Noise Cancellation

To create a more personalized flight experience, S-Pro was designed with high-tech equipment like “noise cancellation systems”. The Headpiece Equipment restrains the background noises by sending adverse sound waves, creating a calm flight atmosphere and reducing flight anxiety.

Direct Sound Technologies

S-Pro’s Direct Sound Technology was developed by rethinking sound technologies by considering flight wastes problems. For reducing flight wastes and providing more sustainable flight experience, the need for single-use earphones was eliminated. With its smart sound technology, S-Pro, provides an impeccable listening experience to the passengers and they consume their audio content without the need for headphones with the direct sound technology.

Reading Lights

Differing among existing solutions, S-Pro has two sided lights on the headrest to provide more homogenous light environment for better reading experience.

Tray Table & Screen Unit Features

Square Screen Unit

Screen units were designed as a square format to maximize the display screen and allow control of other features while watching videos in 16:9 format. Regarding all passengers’ needs, we placed enarthrosis to the screen unit so the location of the screen remains to stand in front of the passenger even if the passenger front reclines their seat.

Two Stages Tray Table

Just like any other moving part, the tray table can be controlled via mobile phone or any smart device during flight. Ther tray tables of S-pro provide a bigger usage area than common ones by sliding outward in two-stage. This special mechanism provides more storage back to the tray and widens the trays’ sizes.

Charge & Docking Deck

Because of the smart devices of a passenger being converted into a remote controller during flight, S-Pro includes charge & docking deck to ensure continuity of passenger experiences

Comfort Features

Reclining Seats

Maximize the flight comfort for the passengers, seat angles were designed as 100 degrees and can be reclined 8 degrees more. In addition to this the screen units and separators are not affected by this reclining movement and remain in their stable positions with extra hinge system not to disturb the rear passenger.

Unibody Sitting Area

The soft sitting area of S-Pro are designed as a unibody which can be reduced contamination by eliminating indentations and personal space for passengers. Thus, a more easily cleaned and hygienic seat suitable for the aircraft has been obtained.

Smart Foldable Footrest

Smart foldable footrests, designed for S-Pro, allow passengers to keep their feet comfortably regardless of the duration of the flight. It’s fully entegrated with no-touch mobile app to turn it on and off

Mainspring Seat Belts

With the mainspring system by differing common seat belts, S-Pro’s are stored inside and contamiend surfaces reducing as possible as while they do not take up the space on the seats.

Smart Foldable Armrest

The armrests system of the S-Pro is one of the features that can be controllable with the mobile phones. When passengers sit their seats, armrests are automatically moving down and are ready for usage. If the passenger wants to close it, they can do it with one command on their phones.

Personal Space Features

Flexible Storage Unit

For bigger belongings, flexible storage area are made by rubber coated fabric for taking the shape of the belonging and providing larger storage space. Also, the surfaces of the fabric used minimal level for reducing the touchable surfaces and maximizing the hygiene of the space.

Hanger Piece

Continuing the design line of the back of seats, hangers are added for passengers’ belongings. So they can hang their coats, umbrellas, hand bags and enjoy their flights by sitting comfortably.

Contact Reducing Seperator

Regarding the importance and the need for personal space due to pandemic conditions, we made a design for ensuring more psychological and physical comfort with separators that are located between the seats and reducing contact with others. They are not affected by the position of the seats and keep their locations in between two passengers even if the seats reclined. To maximize the hygiene on the surface of separators, bold plexiglass material is used because of its easily cleanable feature.

Mobile App Features

Mobile App as Remote Control

The mobile application designed for S-Pro, can be used as a remote control. So, passengers are provided to have a pleasant time during their flight and all their needs on the plane are met. Thanks to the application, passengers can not only adjust the moving parts in their seats, but also have personalized flight experiences with the application to communicate with flight attendants, pacing order from the flight menu, making a choice and enjoy the visual contents on the wide screen and audio content, IFE, thanks to the innovative sound system. Also, it allows passengers to recline their seats, open their footrests, adjust the head restraints according to their own height and open their trays.

Not Only Home, But Also Personal Assistant

Iris can run many commands from the user. That is, with one sentence, the user can adjust the temperature inside or learn the temperature outside. Our living spaces regain their value every day with a “more personal, less mundane” approach.

In addition to the in-home assistance, the user also can ask Iris about what time the meeting will start or if the monthly bills are paid.

Takes Care of Your Home While You Are Away

Most AI systems can be linked to home security systems, but Iris becomes the security systems itself. With the 360 degree camera integrated to the bottom of the sphere, one can check on the designated area on their app all the time. In addition, the user can check the doors of the house via the mobile application. Doors of houses, garden doors, garage doors, etc. can be opened and locked with a simple command given to Iris or via the mobile application.

Mobile App Support

In the mobile interface of the product, attention was paid to the selection of colors consistent with the Iris 3.0. While the mobile application is used more efficiently thanks to the strong signal of the Iris, it also allows the users to continue the experiences offered by the Iris when the user is not at home. Through its clear use flow and navigation, the mobile app enables the user’s home device management and personal usage practices to be checked with a single click.

The iris is designed as a practical product to install and its packaging allows the user to reach the product safely. The wall-mounted apparatus allows users to place the product at a desired point in the house. It also includes a small manual on how to assemble the parts.
